Peer Review Process

The Peer Review Process is an evaluation of manuscript quality by the journal prior to publication. Accepted manuscripts are reviewed by experts in the relevant field to provide feedback and suggestions. The objective is to assist the editor in determining the manuscript's suitability for publication in BALE: Journal of Communication Studies.

 This process serves as a quality control mechanism, where reviewers evaluate the manuscript to ensure the publication's standards. Peer reviewers provide only recommendations for acceptance or rejection, while the final decision rests entirely with the editorial board.

This journal employs a double-blind review system, in which the authors' identities are concealed from the reviewers, and vice versa.

 

Steps in the Peer Review Process

Manuscript Submission

Authors submit their manuscripts via the OJS system after registering with *BALE: Journal of Communication Studies*.Editorial Team Screening

The editorial team verifies the manuscript's compliance with the journal's template. No quality assessment is conducted at this stage.

Editor-in-Chief Evaluation

The Editor-in-Chief checks the manuscript's alignment with the journal's focus, a minimum originality of 80%, and its appeal. Manuscripts that do not meet these criteria may be rejected without further review. 

Invitation to Reviewers

The editor invites 1-2 competent experts in the relevant field, accompanied by a review form.

Response to Invitation 

Reviewers accept or decline the invitation. If they decline, they are encouraged to suggest alternatives.

Review Execution

Reviewers thoroughly read the manuscript and prepare detailed notes. This process takes a maximum of 30 days, after which they return the results along with recommendations (accept, reject, or revise) to the editor. 

Evaluation of Review Results

The editor analyzes all reviews. In cases of discrepancies, additional reviewers may be invited for further opinions before a decision is made.

Decision Notification

The editor communicates the decision to the authors, including relevant reviewer comments. 

Revision Stage

·    If accepted: The manuscript proceeds to production. 

·   If revise/reject: Authors revise according to the feedback, resubmit the manuscript to the editor and reviewers until it is recommended for acceptance. 

·  The editor then approves it and forwards it to the copyeditor for checks on grammar, structure, metadata, page numbering, and layout.

Publication

The publishing process is conducted electronically. The journal editor determines the article's suitability for publication based on the reviewers' validation results and the Editor-in-Chief's approval.

Proses Peer Review merupakan penilaian kualitas naskah oleh jurnal sebelum publikasi. Naskah yang diterima ditinjau oleh para ahli di bidang terkait untuk memberikan ulasan dan saran. Tujuannya adalah membantu editor menentukan kelayakan naskah untuk diterbitkan di BALE: Journal of Communication Studies.

Proses ini berfungsi sebagai pengendalian kualitas, di mana para peninjau mengevaluasi naskah guna menjamin mutu publikasi. Peer reviewer hanya memberikan rekomendasi penerimaan atau penolakan, sedangkan keputusan akhir sepenuhnya berada di tangan dewan editorial.

Jurnal ini menerapkan sistem double-blind review, yakni identitas penulis dirahasiakan dari reviewer, dan begitu pula sebaliknya.

 

Langkah-langkah Proses Peer Review

Pengiriman Naskah

Penulis mengirimkan naskah melalui sistem OJS setelah mendaftar di BALE: Journal of Communication Studies.

Pemeriksaan Tim Editorial

Tim editorial memverifikasi kesesuaian naskah dengan template jurnal. Penilaian kualitas belum dilakukan pada tahap ini. 

Penilaian Editor in Chief

Editor in chief mengecek kecocokan naskah dengan fokus jurnal, orisinalitas minimal 80%, dan daya tariknya. Naskah yang tidak memenuhi syarat dapat ditolak tanpa tinjauan lanjutan.

Pengiriman Undangan ke Reviewer

Editor mengundang 1-2 mitra bestari yang kompeten di bidang terkait, disertai formulir peninjauan.

Respon Undangan

Reviewer menerima atau menolak undangan. Jika menolak, mereka disarankan merekomendasikan alternatif.

Pelaksanaan Peninjauan

Reviewer membaca naskah secara mendalam dan membuat catatan rinci. Proses ini maksimal 30 hari, diikuti pengembalian hasil beserta rekomendasi (terima, tolak, atau revisi) kepada editor.

Evaluasi Hasil Peninjauan

Editor menganalisis semua ulasan. Jika terdapat perbedaan, reviewer tambahan dapat diundang untuk pendapat tambahan sebelum keputusan diambil. 

Pemberitahuan Keputusan

Editor menyampaikan keputusan kepada penulis, lengkap dengan komentar reviewer yang relevan. 

Tahap Revisi

·    Jika diterima: Naskah masuk produksi.

·   Jika revisi/tolak: Penulis merevisi sesuai masukan, lalu naskah dikirim ulang ke editor dan reviewer hingga direkomendasikan diterima.

·   Editor kemudian menyetujui dan meneruskannya ke copyeditor untuk pemeriksaan tata bahasa, sistematika, metadata, nomor halaman, dan tata letak.

 

Publikasi

Proses penerbitan dilakukan secara elektronik. Editor jurnal memutuskan artikel layak publikasi berdasarkan hasil validasi reviewer dan editor in chief
